High Tide Inc., a leading cannabis retailer and accessory company, is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Tax Analyst in Calgary. This is an onsite role in our Calgary office.

Reporting to the Tax Manager, the Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring the company's continued compliance with tax legislation along with providing strategic tax guidance for the company's business operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare legal entity and consolidated, monthly income tax provisions and post relevant entries in the accounting system.
  • Prepare annual financial statement notes and MD&A disclosure.
  • Prepare monthly indirect tax returns and filings such as excise tax/GST/HST/PST/USA sales and use tax, etc.
  • Preparation of foreign affiliate information returns, non-resident withholding tax returns, and foreign affiliate surplus calculations and determine the tax implications arising from dividend repatriations and upstream loans e.g. T106, T1134, T1135, etc.
  • Preparation and filing of Canadian and International corporate tax returns including income and sales taxes. e.g. T2, T5013 etc.
  • Coordinate the response to income tax audits and sales tax audits with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and other tax authorities as required.
  • Monthly GL reconciliation of all tax accounts/GLs.
  • Identify tax savings opportunities.
  • Maintain transfer pricing documentation for intercompany transactions.
  • Perform tax research on specific tax issues or transactions as required and draft memos outlining analysis, conclusion, and recommendations.
  • Participate in corporate tax planning and structuring.
  • Participate in tax due diligence relating to merger and acquisition opportunities.
  • Calculate and/or review estimated tax balances and loss utilization profiles for budgeting, forecasting, and tax planning purposes as required.
  • Ensure adherence to finance processes and controls, emphasizing continuous process improvements and gaining efficiencies through automation.
  • Ad hoc financial analysis and other duties as required by the direct reporting manager.
  • Manage relationships with external tax service providers including engagement agreements, performance management, and account management.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in accounting, finance, or related fields.
  • CPA Designation (CGA/CMA/CA).
  • Completion (or enrollment) of the CICA In-Depth tax course would be an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in corporate tax.
  • 3 years of post-designation work experience.
  • Experience in dealing with CRA tax audits.
  • Experience in Sales tax returns.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Tax legislation and reporting.
  • Exposure to USA Tax legislation and using Avalara would be an asset.
  • Well organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, professional.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen focus on operational performance measures.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.
